Held under the theme "Better Together", this year's Founder's Day underscores the importance of collaboration and collective action in creating meaningful benefits for local communities. In line with this commitment, the initiative, held at the Suka Bumi II Integrated Health Post in Lubuk Gaung, focused on maternal health and the importance of adequate nutrition during pregnancy as part of broader efforts to prevent childhood stunting.
Apical CSR Manager Agus Wiastono emphasised the importance of working closely with government agencies and health care professionals to ensure that community support initiatives address the needs of people living near the company's operations.
"Preventing stunting begins during pregnancy, when maternal health and adequate nutrition are especially important. Through health screenings, education and supplemental food assistance, we hope to help expectant mothers stay healthy throughout pregnancy and support their children's growth and development from an early age," Agus said.
The programme featured two educational sessions. In the first session, Dr. Rhona Nivolla highlighted the importance of the first 1,000 days of life as a critical period for a child's health, growth and development. She explained that this period begins during pregnancy and plays a fundamental role in shaping a child's long-term well-being.
The second session, led by Dr. Rizky Amanda, focused on the role of supplementary feeding in meeting the nutritional needs of pregnant women and children under five.
"Providing balanced supplementary nutrition, including animal-based protein, helps meet the nutritional needs of pregnant women and young children, supporting their optimal growth and development," Dr. Rizky said.
Following the health screenings and educational sessions, each of the 35 pregnant women received a package of supplementary food assistance comprising a box of milk, 1 kilogram of mung beans and a tray of eggs. The assistance aims to help meet their nutritional needs during pregnancy while supporting ongoing stunting prevention efforts in collaboration with local government authorities and health care professionals.
Sungai Sembilan Subdistrict Secretary M. Dino Lubis highlighted the importance of addressing stunting from the earliest stages of pregnancy, stressing the need for sustained collaboration among government agencies, businesses, health care providers and local communities.
"The Dumai city administration, particularly in Sungai Sembilan, continues to strengthen efforts to prevent and reduce stunting. Adequate nutrition during pregnancy plays a critical role in safeguarding maternal health and supporting children's growth and development. By working closely with the private sector, health care professionals and local communities, we aim to make further progress in reducing stunting rates and achieving our goal of zero stunting in Sungai Sembilan," he said.
The initiative reflects Apical's commitment to creating meaningful and lasting benefits for communities near its operations.
